2027 Tindall Tuba Seminar @ EFM
July 4–10, 2027
What It Is
The 2027 Tindall Tuba Seminar @ EFM brings tuba players to the Eastern Festival of Music for a week of intensive study with Aaron Tindall, Principal Tuba of the Naples Philharmonic, Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the Frost School of Music, and Tuba Professor at the Colburn School. Ten performers, selected via preliminary recordings, will work through concerto repertoire, unaccompanied literature and a full orchestral audition packet, culminating in a seminar recital. Auditors will also be accepted.
The seminar is open to professional musicians, college and graduate students, and exceptional high school applicants, ages 16+.
Seminar Details
The week is built around the work of preparing a professional orchestral audition: the repertoire that actually appears on audition lists, studied closely, with the player who has sat in those chairs.
Performers and auditors
Ten players attend as performers, chosen from the preliminary recordings. Once selected, they receive the full seminar packet: two concertos, an unaccompanied work, a solo of their own choosing, and an orchestral audition packet of roughly twenty to twenty-five excerpts. The packet goes out in April, which leaves about eleven weeks to prepare before the seminar begins.
Auditors attend the same sessions and hear the same teaching, without performing. Fifteen or more auditor places are available, and auditors are welcome at every part of the week.
Applying
Every applicant submits a preliminary recording, whether applying as a performer or as an auditor. The required repertoire is listed below. Applicants who are not among the ten performers selected are invited to attend as auditors, so a single application is considered for both.
