Gerard Schwarz

Gerard Schwarz is the Distinguished Professor of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. He is also Music Director of the Palm Beach Symphony, Eastern Festival of Music, Frost Symphony Orchestra, and the All-Star Orchestra, as well as Conductor Laureate of the Seattle Symphony and Conductor Emeritus of Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival.


He has received nine Emmy Awards, 15 Grammy nominations, and seven honorary degrees. His educational CDs, Musically Speaking, receive over one million downloads annually, and his educational series in conjunction with the Khan Academy has been viewed by over 10 million students.


He has premiered over 300 works for orchestra and made more than 350 CDs. Schwarz has conducted most of the major orchestras of the world and has previously been Music Director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, and the Waterloo Music Festival.


He has been married to his wife, Jody, for 41 years and has four children and five grandchildren.
