Daniel Skidmore
Daniel Skidmore performs regularly as Concertmaster of the Western Piedmont Symphony and the Salisbury Symphony and as Associate Concertmaster of the Winston-Salem Symphony. Born into a family of musicians in Morgantown, West Virginia, he began violin studies in a large Suzuki program taught by Mary Wilson where he developed some lifelong friendships through the power of lovely solos, duets, and trios. After obtaining degrees in violin performance from West Virginia University and Northwestern University, he moved to the Piedmont Triad thanks in large part to his teacher John Fadial and a doctoral fellowship offered him through the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Since then, Dan has taught violin at numerous regional universities, and in the summers he serves as a violin faculty member of the Eastern Music Festival. He also ministers regularly through music at Guilford Baptist Church.
For the past few years Dan has been especially excited about violin and chamber music teaching jobs at High Point University and the Oak View Baptist School of Music. His students have been performing and ministering to people in the Piedmont Triad, most notably as members of regional orchestras, faith based ensembles, or through annual recitals given on university campuses or at assisted living facilities. This past spring he was thrilled to have the opportunity to perform Samuel Barber's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra as soloist with the High Point University Community Orchestra.
